Extremely Rare 1957 Ohio State Buckeyes National Championship / 1958 Rose Bowl Presentation Watch

This extremely rare Ohio State Buckeyes presentation watch commemorates one of the greatest seasons in Ohio State football history. The 1957 National Championship season, capped by the Buckeyes’ victory in the 1958 Rose Bowl.

Led by legendary head coach Woody Hayes and team captains Galen Cisco and Leo Brown, Ohio State finished the season 9–1 overall and a perfect 7–0 in Big Ten play, capturing the Big Ten Championship and earning a trip to Pasadena.

On January 1, 1958, Ohio State faced Oregon in the Rose Bowl. In a closely contested game, the Buckeyes defeated the Ducks 10–7, with Don Sutherin’s fourth-quarter field goal providing the winning margin. The victory capped a remarkable season and helped secure the third National Championship in Ohio State football history.

What makes this piece particularly special is that members of the championship team were reportedly offered a choice of receiving a championship ring or a presentation watch. While championship rings from this era occasionally surface, far fewer of these watches are known, making this an extremely rare and seldom-seen piece of Ohio State championship memorabilia.

This 14K gold-filled presentation watch belonged to Edward J. McClain and remains in amazing condition for its age. Nearly seven decades later, its exceptional preservation makes it an especially impressive surviving piece from Ohio State’s 1957 National Championship season.

More than simply a vintage timepiece, this watch is a tangible piece of Ohio State football history, directly representing a season that included a Big Ten Championship, Rose Bowl victory and National Championship.

Condition: Amazing vintage condition for its age, with only light signs of wear consistent with a nearly 70-year-old presentation watch. The watch is marked 14K Gold Filled.
