Houston hosted the Mid Summer Classics for the second time in 1986 at the Astrodome. Roger Clemens kept the National League's hitters in check and took MVP honors. The starting battery for the National League was the historic Mets tandem of Carter and Dwight Gooden with fellow she favorites Keith Hernandez and Darrell strawberry likewise among the starting nine.

The 1981 MLB All-Star Game, played in front of 72,086 fans in Cleveland Stadium, was one of the best in the game's history. With the American League ahead, 4-3, Mike Schmidt hit a two-run home run off of Rollie Fingers in the 8th inning. That would be the last scoring in the game, as the National League went on to win 5-4. Gary Carter, who hit two homers, won the Most Valuable Player Award. 1984 All-Star Game Ring!
The 1984 Midsummer classic was played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco the game resulted in a 3 to 1 victory for the National League. The National League drew first blood in the first off Dave Stieb when Steve Garvey singled to right and went to second on an error by Reggie Jackson. Garvey then scored on another error by catcher, Lance Parrish after Dale Murphy singled. In the second, George Brett tied it up with a homer off Charlie Lea, and game MVP Gary Carter quickly gave the NL the lead back with a shot off Dave Stieb. The game would remain two to one, NL, for more than five innings with two noteworthy pitching performances by National League pitchers along the way. Fernando Valenzuela struck out Dave Winfield, Reggie Jackson, and George Brett in the fourth, and 19 Year old Dwight Gooden fanned Lance Parrish, Chet Lemon and Alvin Davis in the fifth. Dale Murphy added a homer in the eighth off of Willy Hernandez for the final 3-1 margin. Goose Gossage got the save. The game set a nine inning All-Star game record for the most strikeouts (21) which wouldn't be broken until 1999

Talk about a pitching duel! The 1987 Major League Baseball All-Star game was tied 0-0 after 12 and innings, even though the game featured such players as Darryl Strawberry, Ricky Henderson, Don Mattingly, Mike Schmidt Cal Ripken Jr, Ryne Sandberg and Mark McGwire. The best pictures in the game including Mike Scott, Orel Hershiser, Brett Saberhagen and Jack Morris –were able to keep batters at bay. Finally, the National League broke through for two runs in the 13th ending to win the ball game. Tim Raines went three for three and drove in both runs to win the MVP of the game that was played in Oakland California.

Played on July 11th in Atlanta, the 2000 Major League Baseball All-Star Game featured the likes of Derek Jeter, Sammy Sosa, Ivan Rodriguez, Randy Johnson and hometown hero Chipper Jones, who would hit the game's only home run as part of his 3-for-3 performance. Jeter would also go 3-for-3, with a double, to win the Most Valuable Player Award in the American League's 6-3 victory over the National League.

The 1979 Major League Baseball All Star Game, played in the Seattle Kingdome, was certainly a memorable contest. It featured in epic matchup of starting pitchers, in Steve Carlton versus Nolan Ryan. In a back-and-forth affair, the National League scored a run in the eighth inning to tie the game, then scored the winning run in the ninth, to beat the American League 7 to 6. Dave Parker showed off his canon of an arm, gunning down two runners on unforgettable throws from the outfield. Parker also had an RBI and a walk, and was named the games MVP.
