Rutherford was a three-year letterman for Oklahoma State from 1992-95. As a senior, he led the team to a Big Eight Tournament championship and the Cowboys' first Final Four appearance in 45 years. He averaged 15.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 99 collegiate games. After leaving OSU, Rutherford spent eight years playing professional basketball overseas. He played his final four seasons with the Brisbane Bullets of the NBL in Australia, where he was named All-NBL second team in 2002.
