Bob Gainey was no stranger to winning Stanley Cup Championships as a player, he turned to both coaching and managing after hanging up his Habs' sweater, with multiple seasons spent behind the bench and later behind the scenes as general manager with the Minnesota North Stars / Dallas Stars, redefining the franchise with the acquisitions of Joe Nieuwendyk, Brett Hull, Ed Belfour, and Sergei Zubov. Leading his club to the 1998-99 Stanley club playoffs, the Stars would post series wins over Edmonton, St. Louis and Colorado before Brett Hull scored his infamous triple overtime winner vs. Buffalo in games six of the finals to secure the first Stanley Cup Championship in franchise history.
