Description

This beautiful 1980 The Sporting News National League Fireman of the Year Award was presented to Rollie Fingers of the San Diego Padres!

During his 18-year baseball career,
Roland Glen Fingers pitched for the Oakland Athletics (196876), San Diego Padres (197780) and Milwaukee Brewers (198185). He became only the second reliever, ever to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He is also one of only a few MLB players to have his # retired by more than one club (Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers). Fingers won both the American League MVP and Cy Young Awards the following year (1981), while with Milwaukee.

In 1974, Rollie was the World Series MVP for Oakland, earning 2-saves and 1-win. Fingers was on the Oakland A's team that accomplished the first modern-day "three-peat," winning the World Series in 1972, '73 and '74. Fingers won the Rolaids Relief "Man of the Year" Award in 1977, 1978, and 1980 with the Padres and in 1981 with the Brewers. In addition, Rollie was awarded The 1980 Sporting News National League "Fireman of the Year" Award for his excellence as a relief pitcher. In 1992, Rollie Fingers was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, joining only Hoyt Wilhelm, to become just the second reliever ever inducted (Dennis Eckersley, Bruce Sutter, and Goose Gossage have since followed).

In 1999, he ranked Number 96 on The Sporting News list of Baseball's Greatest Players! Fingers is one of only eight players who have had their numbers retired from more than one team. In 2000, Fingers was also inducted by the San Diego Hall of Champions into the honoring San Diego's finest athletes both on and off the playing surface.

This is an incredible piece, GUARANTEED to be 100% Authentic, from one of the greatest relief pitchers in baseball history!!!!
