The Shockers defeated Indiana 81–76 in the opening round before one of the highlights of the season — a 78–65 victory over No. 2 seed Kansas to advance to the Sweet 16. Wichita State's tournament run eventually came to an end against Notre Dame, finishing an impressive season with 30 wins and a Sweet 16 appearance.
The ring was manufactured by Jostens and is stamped C “J” LTM inside the band. The original recipient's name is engraved inside the ring but has been blocked in the photos for privacy.
